would rather gain an hour than lose one

i really need to be better about updating this blog, though i do keep things current on facebook and twitter… i can’t believe february came and went, and i really can’t believe sunday is my 41st bday! the only plans (that i made) are dinner w/the hubby and kid, and that’s fine by me… i struggled with bday ideas, since i really don’t need anything, but did find some cute, plush alien dolls online while looking at robot dolls for deck… maybe i’ll think of something else between now and then, who knows…

our trip to florida last month was great and the auto train was a lot of fun! deck did really well and it was nice having our own roomette with bathroom (though small)… it was a bit rough on the trip down – we had to eat in our room since we got a late seating and the a/c wasn’t working so it was a tad warm… we didn’t sleep much though deck slept like a champ and was raring to go the next day… we stayed with eric’s parents at their condo in ft. myers and were able to see an aunt & uncle, the beach, the pool a few times, and a nearby park that had a small train ride… it was warm, but not humid and overall – a nice break from work… on the way back, we visited with eric’s sister’s family in st. pete – they moved to FL about a year ago so it was nice to see them… the train ride back was much better – we checked-in early so dinner worked out much better, the a/c worked, and everyone slept like a baby… we’ve already talked about our next trip down there – might try the family room this time which is bigger (though no bathroom)… photos from our trip can be viewed here

work has been picking-up since our annual meeting is in less than 2-months… i’m not one to brag, but the chairman of our committee is dating THE george lucas who will be speaking on the friday afternoon panel… and an invitation has also gone out to THE president to speak at our opening session – won’t know for sure until a few weeks out (if we even get that much notice!)… if he does say yes, things will be crazy for sure since it will be high-security for a few hours before/after… exciting!

we finally hired a new designer, who is doing great so far, but we’ll be losing another one at the end of the month… i’m not surprised that she’s leaving – she’s getting married in september and her fiance graduates from grad school in may and will be looking for a job in NYC… ah, to be young again… i’m hopeful that the search for another designer won’t be as bad as before, so fingers-crossed… april and may are really busy months for us, so i’m just praying things stay on track..

i can’t think of anything else – oh, we found out that eric’s host-family in france (that we stayed with on our belated babymoon) will be coming to DC in june and staying with us for a few days… no time like the present to finish painting and getting the outside in order… deck will be thoroughly confused since he’s learning spanish at daycare and will have no idea what they’re saying… c’est la vie!

i’ll leave you with some recent pics of deck… hope you have a wonderful weekend! :)

bring solha home

i’m not sure how many of you are familiar with the blog rurallyscrewed, but if you’re not – it’s a great read… jessie is a writer and lives in rural virginia with her husband, jake, and their daughter, june… jake is currently stationed in afghanistan and she’s been sharing stories of a dog that his base has adopted, solha, and he wants to bring her home… here’s her latest post and if you’re an animal lover like me, or a fan of the blog, or neither and just want to help – please do! just look at that face!

thank you! :)

new year, new blog

for those of you that have known me for a while, you shouldn’t be surprised that i’ve been playing around with a new design… i decided to actually purchase a wordpress theme template this time around and was having some “issues”, but all is good now and i’m back in business… i will probably keep tweeking things here and there, so just bear with me…

work is starting to pick-up again because of our annual meeting, and even though it’s 4-months away – things are in full swing… i’m the lead (and only) designer so that means i have to do everything that could possibly be needed to promote the event between now and may 9… the only thing i’m excited about is maybe getting to meet george lucas who will be doing a panel on the last day (he’s dating the chairman of the conference)… so if it seems like i’m complaining a lot – you’ll know why…

our new elliptical was delivered on saturday morning and while trying to assemble it on sunday – we found a piece was missing… talk about disappointed! ugh! i had to contact the company and they’re sending a new one in the mail so fingers-crossed that it arrives soon and that i can start using it… eric, god love him, took apart the bowflex and being that i didn’t get much response from friends/facebook – i put a listing on freecycle.org and got a ton of responses… late saturday night, an 8-month pregnant woman and her boyfriend came over and took it away… she said she had 5 brothers and it would be going in her mom’s basement – win win, in my book!

not much else is new really – deck is really becoming a busy-body and quite daring on occasions… like trying to go down steps the normal way and not backwards and climbing on my footstool in the LR and jumping-off… are all 15-mos kids like this or just boys? we’ve also been working on cutting out his nap time bottles and think it’s going pretty well – the doctor on our last visit said that by the time he’s 15-mos, he should be having all his meals in the kitchen… it’s weird to not give him a bottle anymore and part of me is sad that he’s growing so fast, but the other part is excited to see what’s next… ah, the joys of parenthood…

happy hump day!

slow down

can’t believe it’s monday already, but technically – it’s my thursday since i have off on wednesday, which makes tomorrow my friday! yay! it was a relaxing and yet productive weekend – i did some stuff around the house like touching-up the trim in the kitchen and applying a wall saying that i found at kohl’s last week… it’s a tad crooked, though any normal person wouldn’t notice, but being i’m a perfectionist – it will drive me crazy until (1) i fix it or (2) get used to it… yesterday, my mom and i went to an antique/holiday sale and it was in a barn which was pretty cool… they have different vendors that sell everything from candles and wreaths, to chandeliers and furniture… it was also laundry and grocery store day, and that was the weekend… i was SO hoping the redskins could pull out a win over the cowboys, but no such luck… we’ve now lost 6 games in a row… depressing!

and today is my 2nd wedding anniversary… things had been so stressful at work last week, that it slipped my mind until eric drug me to the garage on saturday night, with my eyes closed, to give me a present… he has become such a wonderful husband and father to deck – i’m really the luckiest person alive… i love you, darlin… xo

enjoy some pics and happy monday…

deck in his new jammies…

helping dad with the leaves…

helping mom sweep the floor…

wall saying in our kitchen…

antique store that’s located in a barn…

my anniversary present…

weigh-in

i did MUCH better this week and was down 2.4 pounds (.4 pounds from my beginning weight) and yes, i was pretty happy, but still disappointed that it wasn’t more… why do we do that?! why can’t we be satisfied with a loss, regardless of how much?! why must the numbers be larger than 1 pound in order to feel successful?! i’m not really looking for an answer – just venting since i know i’m not the only one that feels this way… i promise to work on my attitude…

work has been busy and i fear what it will be like after august 19 when the other designer leaves… we are looking for a replacement, but we all know how long it takes to find someone that is (a) talented, (b) easy to work with, (c) eager to learn, and (d) nice… fingers-crossed that we find someone sooner rather than later or i’ll be doing a lot of work from home…

this past weekend was pretty busy – took the cats to the vets and have to take 2 of them back on monday (1 is getting shaved and chipped and the other has a bad tooth that has to come out)… on sunday, we had some friends and their kids over to see the house – all went well and i made sure to make lots of healthy food (so whatever was leftover was okay for me to eat)… this coming weekend – we are heading to my sister’s and weather-depending – we’ll be able to check-out their pool… and both of us took monday and tuesday off so we can paint and see a movie (i have a ton of vacation to use)…

speaking of vacation – we finally nailed down some dates and reserved a room at the beach for after labor day… we won’t be attempting to camp this year and figured a hotel would be easier this time, though we plan on going to the same beach since it’s pretty deserted… i’m anxious to see how deck does in the sand and ocean – my guess is, he will LOVE it… i also ordered one of those beach cabanas so there will be a shaded spot for napping and out of the sun… i.can’t.wait…

i hope you’re all having a great week!

gaining nothing

i am completely disgusted with myself… who gains 2 pounds on their first week back on WW? me, that’s who… i could easily blame the chinese food we had for dinner last night, but it was my idea and it was eric’s bday… and this past weekend wasn’t that great either, so why am i so surprised with a gain? i’m obviously not taking this whole “losing weight” thing seriously and that’s pretty sad… i feel like a failure when i know, in my heart, that i can do much better… so if anyone has seen my willpower, let me know… i’d sure like to see them again…

MIA

Hi everyone… I apologize for not being here in quite some time, but like always – there’s been a lot going on… I just finished a huge 2+ month project at work, and there’s more projects in the pipeline so I won’t get much of a break there… There has also been some exciting stuff going on regarding the house situation, but I can’t really talk about it yet so stay tuned! :)

And then there’s Deck who turned 6-months on the 17th – he continues to grow right before our eyes and I swear he changes everyday… He is up to 18 lbs 8 ozs and is 27 inches long, and was a trooper during his last round of shots… He’s still enjoying cereal for dinner and has dabbled in green beans, sweet potatoes, peas, and this week – it was bananas… He sits up really well and has attempted to rollover, but hasn’t made it a daily thing yet… He definitely has his favorite toys in each room, and loves to talk to us before and after work… Eric loves the time they have together after work, and I get to enjoy him in the morning when he’s being fed… As for sleeping – he’s slept from 9:30-6:00 a couple times, but the majority of the time, he’s up between 4:30-4:45 and won’t go back down without nursing… If it’s a good night, like last night, he was happy with a pacifier so I’ll keep trying that… I’m used to getting between 6-7 hours of sleep at this point – sometimes its less and sometimes it’s more on the weekends…

Here’s the link to his monthly photos –> http://weaklandfamily.smugmug.com/Children/Deckard-6-months

And in other news – I joined WW 2 weeks ago and so far, so good… I’m down almost 5 pounds, but know if I exercised more, I would see better progress… We’ve gone for some walks after work with Deck and that’s been great, but I need to walk for longer than 30-mins and do more hills for sure… I haven’t started back at the gym yet, but am thinking it’s time to start now that my big work project is done… Either way, I need to lose weight regardless – nothing fits and I’ve had to buy yet more clothes in a size I haven’t seen for a very long time… Talk about a wakeup call… If you look at the top menu, I’ve created a progress page and will update that once a week… :)

Well, that’s about all for now… Deck and I are headed to Allentown to see my friend from college, her 11-month old twins, and another mutual friend that is due in July… I haven’t seen either of them since before I had Deck so I’m looking forward to seeing them and getting some much needed girl-time… :)

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and Happy Easter… :)
