i’m so thankful that after a week on antibiotics, i’m feeling like myself again… last weekend was pretty rough and up until wednesday i was still feeling under the weather, but am happy to report that i can breathe again, the pressure behind my eyes and cheeks has disappeared, and my teeth stop hurting (something that happens when i get a sinus infection)… deck’s cough has also gone away so for the time being – our family is healthy again! yay!

in less than a week, we’ll be heading to florida to stay with eric’s parents for a few days… they said it’s been in the mid- to high-70s and considering it’s finally gotten cold around here – that will be a welcome change… this weekend will be full of prepping stuff we need to take and digging out summer clothes (not something i’m looking forward too)… the boys also need haircuts and i need to take the little guy for new shoes since i’m pretty sure he’s going to outgrow his any day now… he has become fascinated with our shoes for some reason, and thinks it’s funny to put them on when we’re in the bedroom changing… seems like yesterday when i was putting on my mom’s shoes and trying to walk around, and now my son is doing the same thing…

we watched the ‘black swan’ last night which was an interesting movie… and am looking forward to the ‘walking dead’ coming back on sunday night… love me some zombies…

sorry for the lack of posts, but i’ve been pretty sick for the last week and was finally diagnosed with a sinus infection this morning (i waited too long to go to the doctor)… with an RX in hand and 2 samples of flonase – i went to the store and loaded up for the weekend so i won’t have to deal with superbowl sunday… i really hope i’m feeling better by then and am looking forward to a semi-quiet weekend at home… only plans we have are getting deck measured for new shoes tomorrow with mom and that’s it… yay!

i hope to be back on my feet next week and until then, have a nice weekend…

4-day weeks are the worst

it’s been a long, frustrating, and stressful week at work, but my boss just found out a person she interviewed for the open designer job is really interested! that’s the best news ever, esp. before the weekend… i went home early yesterday (since things here utterly sucked and i had to leave), and didn’t get a chance to meet her in person, but will on tuesday… i have no doubt that i will like her, since my boss and i have the same taste in a lot of things, but i’m glad she values my opinion with stuff like this… fingers crossed that it works out!

since this week was a blur, last weekend was a busy one since i took it upon myself to paint the LR (seems to be a habit on 3-day weekends)… it’s a nice shade of blue, which goes well with the chocolate brown furniture, and the next project is finding curtains and figuring out what gets framed and where should it go… i love me a challenge! we did hang the mirror above the fireplace (that i bought in june ’11) and love it…

i haven’t tried the elliptical yet since it was missing a piece, and then when we were almost finished putting it together – another piece was missing! stupid company… so i called them on monday and we got the pieces yesterday, though it was 2 of one part and the other parts that go with it, weren’t included… eric was able to make-do with what they sent, so now it’s together and ready for use… ironic that today, HR sent an email re: the building gym was finished and will be open for business on monday… that’s the 2nd best piece of news i’ve gotten today…

weekend plans: possibly ride-along with eric so he can get quotes for a truck-cap and then visit with mom on sunday…

friday’s trip to meet santa well really well – deck didn’t cry, scream, or jump of his lap, so it was a total success! two benefits of going on a weekday is (1) only having to wait 5-minutes and (2) finding a parking space! whoo hoo carrots! if we hadn’t rushed out of there, to beat rush-hour traffic, i would’ve stayed to do some window shopping (or real shopping esp. at crate & barrel)…

the rest of the weekend was pretty normal – on saturday, the boys got their haircut and on sunday, we visited with my mom and helped her w/a few things around the house… i also did some grocery shopping, laundry, and unpacked our books in the basement so the spare bedroom is almost empty… we also decided that the bowflex exercise machine that the previous owner gifted us, is going unused and honestly – i don’t see myself ever using it… so, i think we’re going to get rid of it and buy an elliptical – that way, we’ll both be able to workout at the same time and it will be something i know i will use (esp. this winter)… the gym in my building here is STILL under reconstruction, who knows when it will reopen, and i’m definitely not getting any skinnier…

this week should be pretty quiet here, at least after wednesday when all the work i have will be done for the year… my boss is out and then i’m off until january 4 – can’t wait…

hope everyone had a nice thanksgiving – we survived yet another weakland holiday in state college (62 people this year) and deck got to meet some more aunts, uncles, and cousins… he did pretty good overall, but was wired and excited about being in a hotel room so his napping/sleeping was off… he’s all about checking things out and not standing still – which is why our attempt at going to church didn’t pan out and we spent the service in the children’s area (sound proof)… there was plenty of food to be had later on, but the downfall of not being the one cooking is not having any leftovers for samiches or soup… it was nice spending time with eric’s family, especially his parents since we don’t see them as often as we’d like, and deck enjoyed showing-off his scooter skills in their room… we headed back on friday morning and were home by 1:00… it’s always nice to be in your own place again and back in a normal routine…

our weekend was pretty low-key and full of the usual stuff… eric helped me get down all my christmas bins on sunday (too many to count) and we went to my mom’s to get our live tree that my BIL had dropped off on friday… it’s a beautiful fraiser fir and smells wonderful – can’t wait to put it up… since eric’s parents are staying with us in 2 weeks, i need to get my butt in gear this weekend and decorate! the only thing i’ve done so far is put up a small tree in our kitchen and then one in deck’s room, though it’s distracting when he goes to sleep so i have to unplug it (bah!)…

speaking of deck, i caught him trying to put his leg on the railing sunday night so i called eric and we lowered his mattress… the little stinker is all about climbing things and i guess that’s just him being a boy and more mobile, but wow – that was pretty weird to see… my little baby isn’t so much a baby anymore… i’ve done some christmas shopping, but not very much and have a lot more to do… i did buy us some very nice, monogrammed stockings today on landsend.com and being that we have a fireplace and a mantle – i’m all about traditions… neither eric or i really need anything, so we may do a big gift like a new tv or something… we’ll see…

can’t believe it’s monday already, but technically – it’s my thursday since i have off on wednesday, which makes tomorrow my friday! yay! it was a relaxing and yet productive weekend – i did some stuff around the house like touching-up the trim in the kitchen and applying a wall saying that i found at kohl’s last week… it’s a tad crooked, though any normal person wouldn’t notice, but being i’m a perfectionist – it will drive me crazy until (1) i fix it or (2) get used to it… yesterday, my mom and i went to an antique/holiday sale and it was in a barn which was pretty cool… they have different vendors that sell everything from candles and wreaths, to chandeliers and furniture… it was also laundry and grocery store day, and that was the weekend… i was SO hoping the redskins could pull out a win over the cowboys, but no such luck… we’ve now lost 6 games in a row… depressing!

and today is my 2nd wedding anniversary… things had been so stressful at work last week, that it slipped my mind until eric drug me to the garage on saturday night, with my eyes closed, to give me a present… he has become such a wonderful husband and father to deck – i’m really the luckiest person alive… i love you, darlin… xo

longest week ever

has it really been since mid-september that i posted anything? wow, that just blows (i apologize to all of my 5 readers)…

it’s been a busy and quick few weeks, and this week was probably the worst since deck came down with a bad cold, then got an ear infection, then had a fever, and then a rash (roseola virus)… he still has rosy cheeks, but the splotches on the rest of his body have faded and his mood has improved for sure… eric and i took turns staying home from work, leaving early, and taking him to the doctor – wouldn’t be such a big deal if we didn’t both work downtown… i’m very lucky to have an understanding boss and the ability to work from home, so it wasn’t too bad (unless he was crying and needed to be held)… all i can say is i’m hoping this weekend is full of fun, love, and laughter…

on the home front – we’ll be placing the order for add’l kitchen cabinets tomorrow and they might be installed by the end of the month! yay! we had had both looked for a freestanding piece and i kept going back to the fact that having something, that goes w/the rest of the kitchen, is better in the long run… i would LOVE a cheaper option, but sometimes the best way isn’t always the least expensive… i cannot WAIT to have a pantry so i can put away my appliances and have a place to store bulk food and paper products… and having a small counter will be great when deck gets older because he’ll have a nice place to sit and do homework or keep me company while in the kitchen… i promise to take progress pics…

the rest of the weekend will consist of the usual – laundry, cleaning, and grocery shopping… my mom is coming down on sunday so i may drag her and deck along to the big thrift store so i can find some skirts for work… and some brown boots…

we survived

it’s been nuts here @ work since the other designer is gone, so i’ve barely had time to do my stuff, plus whatever else comes my way… long story short – we had a great time at the beach, though the weather could’ve been better (we had 1 day of sun)… deck enjoyed the pool, the ocean, the sand, cruising around the condo, and going out to eat… it brought me such great joy to experience this was him and eric, just like i used too with my family for years and years… we still prefer camping though and the state park beach and MAY attempt it again next year… here’s some of our vacation pics…

weekend plans: my mom, deck, and i are headed to the mountains this weekend to see my sister… we haven’t been in a while and she has a ton of clothes for him which is great since the weather is starting to change here… not sure what eric is going to do besides change the brakes on my car, but i imagine he’ll be sleeping-in both days and i’m already jealous!

who needs an excuse

i am thankful that it’s friday – it’s been a busy week here at work and next week will probably be worse since my coworker is out, and then she’s gone for good on the 19th… i’m not sure when we’ll be getting a replacement, so it will be an interesting august and september to say the least… i never had the full-ability to work from home via VPN and the laptop that IT gave me to use is slow (shocking) and doesn’t have any of the software that i need… basically, i would have to save the documents on a thumb-drive, go to my mac, and then back again… but since my hubby is so wonderful (and a geek), he managed to get things working on my mac mini last night and i’m in business… not that i really WANT to work from home, but on days when i need to leave and finish at home – now i can… thank you, darlin – i knew there was a reason why i married you…

weekend plans: all 3 cats are headed to the vet tomorrow morning and then eric’s coworker is having a pool party in the afternoon so we may swing by and get our feet wet… on sunday – we have some more friends and their kids coming over to see the house and that’s about it besides the usual errands and cleaning… it’s supposed to be another triple H weekend in DC (hazy, hot, and humid) so staying indoors sounds good to me…

one more thing – if you like etsy, then you will love supermarkethq… it’s a great site, with some great things, by some really great artists – like the one that made this ring… i thought it screamed “jodi” so i had to buy it… love it…

i always have good intentions, but this weekend was a fail with both food and exercise… we had friends over on saturday night and i made 2 kinds of enchiladas, rice & beans, and cheese/salsa dip – who can pass that up? oh, and add margaritas and peach pie with ice cream… nonetheless, it’s a new day and i’m tracking again – just disappointed since i can’t even stay OP for my first week back… it was extremely hot outside all weekend, so walking outside wasn’t going to happen… i had good intentions of taking deck out last night, but he went to bed early and then eric & i really wanted to watch part #1 of harry potter so we can go see part #2 in the theaters (very good, by the way – i know i’m a little behind)… next thing you know, it’s 11:30 and time for bed…

yesterday was probably the first day, in the new house, that we didn’t have any set plans or anywhere to go… it was awesome! we spent lots of time playing with deck and then finished up some little projects here and there, and also tried out the pool table in the basement… eric had told me a while ago that he found a gas grill that he’d like, so for his bday – that’s what he got… so to celebrate – he grilled some burgers for dinner and they were very tasty… can’t wait to try out other things esp. pizza…

so that was our weekend – saw another mama deer and baby in the woods behind our house, and think we spotted a fox on saturday night, running up our neighbor’s driveway… so cool…
