4-day weeks are the worst

it’s been a long, frustrating, and stressful week at work, but my boss just found out a person she interviewed for the open designer job is really interested! that’s the best news ever, esp. before the weekend… i went home early yesterday (since things here utterly sucked and i had to leave), and didn’t get a chance to meet her in person, but will on tuesday… i have no doubt that i will like her, since my boss and i have the same taste in a lot of things, but i’m glad she values my opinion with stuff like this… fingers crossed that it works out!

since this week was a blur, last weekend was a busy one since i took it upon myself to paint the LR (seems to be a habit on 3-day weekends)… it’s a nice shade of blue, which goes well with the chocolate brown furniture, and the next project is finding curtains and figuring out what gets framed and where should it go… i love me a challenge! we did hang the mirror above the fireplace (that i bought in june ’11) and love it…

i haven’t tried the elliptical yet since it was missing a piece, and then when we were almost finished putting it together – another piece was missing! stupid company… so i called them on monday and we got the pieces yesterday, though it was 2 of one part and the other parts that go with it, weren’t included… eric was able to make-do with what they sent, so now it’s together and ready for use… ironic that today, HR sent an email re: the building gym was finished and will be open for business on monday… that’s the 2nd best piece of news i’ve gotten today…

weekend plans: possibly ride-along with eric so he can get quotes for a truck-cap and then visit with mom on sunday…

for those of you that have known me for a while, you shouldn’t be surprised that i’ve been playing around with a new design… i decided to actually purchase a wordpress theme template this time around and was having some “issues”, but all is good now and i’m back in business… i will probably keep tweeking things here and there, so just bear with me…

work is starting to pick-up again because of our annual meeting, and even though it’s 4-months away – things are in full swing… i’m the lead (and only) designer so that means i have to do everything that could possibly be needed to promote the event between now and may 9… the only thing i’m excited about is maybe getting to meet george lucas who will be doing a panel on the last day (he’s dating the chairman of the conference)… so if it seems like i’m complaining a lot – you’ll know why…

our new elliptical was delivered on saturday morning and while trying to assemble it on sunday – we found a piece was missing… talk about disappointed! ugh! i had to contact the company and they’re sending a new one in the mail so fingers-crossed that it arrives soon and that i can start using it… eric, god love him, took apart the bowflex and being that i didn’t get much response from friends/facebook – i put a listing on freecycle.org and got a ton of responses… late saturday night, an 8-month pregnant woman and her boyfriend came over and took it away… she said she had 5 brothers and it would be going in her mom’s basement – win win, in my book!

not much else is new really – deck is really becoming a busy-body and quite daring on occasions… like trying to go down steps the normal way and not backwards and climbing on my footstool in the LR and jumping-off… are all 15-mos kids like this or just boys? we’ve also been working on cutting out his nap time bottles and think it’s going pretty well – the doctor on our last visit said that by the time he’s 15-mos, he should be having all his meals in the kitchen… it’s weird to not give him a bottle anymore and part of me is sad that he’s growing so fast, but the other part is excited to see what’s next… ah, the joys of parenthood…

geesh, eric was right – i haven’t updated this blog in quite some time! “why do i bother?” i often ask myself … i guess i’m just not ready to give it up quite yet… anyhoo, it’s been a hellish week at work and a busy few weeks at home… my boss was out sick mon, tues, weds so i had to step-up and take care of her things, plus handle what was already on my plate… then the temp called-in sick today, so i’ve had to handle her projects as well… AND since i’m complaining (which is totally allowed since this is my blog), i have yet to receive a proper “thank-you” for the annual report… so yea, that’s what i’ve been dealing with here…

we’ve been doing a lot of stuff around the house lately and poor eric has been raking the heck out of leaves (and there’s no end in sight!)… the new kitchen cabinets and counter are all done (will post pics later) – i’m very happy with the choice we made and it looks awesome! i also decided to paint the kitchen last weekend – since i had off on friday, i wanted to be productive and spent the next 3 days climbing a ladder and standing on a stool… i have some touching-up to do on saturday, but that’s it and then it’s on to another room…

deck turns 13-months today (what???) – he is doing so well with everything and continues to amaze us every, single day… he did great with his 1-year shots and is in the 75th and 85th percentiles for weight and height… he has almost 6 teeth now, got his 1st big-boy haircut, walks like a champ, brushes his teeth, and is going to bed w/out a bottle or cup of milk… the doc said that all meals should be done in the kitchen now and that he should be off bottles and onto cups by the time he’s 15-mos… she also stressed how important it was for him to eat with us at meals, which is what we’ve always done, regardless of what stage he was at… and he pretty much eats everything that we do (for the most part), and still loves his applesauce and yogurt (and crackers)… he’s also showing great interest in the cats now and the smallest of the three, tyler, has even allowed deck to lay on him… it doesn’t last long, mind you, but it’s very sweet and warms my heart… there’s nothing more that i could want, is a kid that loves animals as much as we do…

thanksgiving is next week (how did that happen???) and we’re heading to state college for eric’s huge family celebration… it should be interesting considering all the penn state allegations that are going on right now – all the sports stations here keep talking about it (and the sucky redskins)… since we didn’t go last year, i’m really looking forward to going and having everyone meet deck… should be fun!

and for christmas, the only plans we have is hosting the family dinner on the 26th… and eric’s parents will be staying with us for a few days on their way down to florida… this is the first time that they’ve stayed with us and seen the new house, so that too will be exciting…

who needs an excuse

i am thankful that it’s friday – it’s been a busy week here at work and next week will probably be worse since my coworker is out, and then she’s gone for good on the 19th… i’m not sure when we’ll be getting a replacement, so it will be an interesting august and september to say the least… i never had the full-ability to work from home via VPN and the laptop that IT gave me to use is slow (shocking) and doesn’t have any of the software that i need… basically, i would have to save the documents on a thumb-drive, go to my mac, and then back again… but since my hubby is so wonderful (and a geek), he managed to get things working on my mac mini last night and i’m in business… not that i really WANT to work from home, but on days when i need to leave and finish at home – now i can… thank you, darlin – i knew there was a reason why i married you…

weekend plans: all 3 cats are headed to the vet tomorrow morning and then eric’s coworker is having a pool party in the afternoon so we may swing by and get our feet wet… on sunday – we have some more friends and their kids coming over to see the house and that’s about it besides the usual errands and cleaning… it’s supposed to be another triple H weekend in DC (hazy, hot, and humid) so staying indoors sounds good to me…

one more thing – if you like etsy, then you will love supermarkethq… it’s a great site, with some great things, by some really great artists – like the one that made this ring… i thought it screamed “jodi” so i had to buy it… love it…

yesterday sucked-ass… i’ve been trying to leave 5-10 minutes early so i can meet eric @ the metro station and then we drive home together with deck… but surprise, surprise – there was a metro “issue” and they were single-tracking so i knew my commute home would be awful… after being offloaded twice and then having to wait for a bus – i was in the door by 7:00… that’s over 2 hours after i left work… i was angry, frustrated, and upset since i missed deck’s dinnertime and only had about 1/2 hour with him before we had to start planning for bedtime… i hate working downtown for this reason and i know metro is usually pretty good, but when it’s not – i hate it with a passion… i just wish my job let us work from home a few days a week or was just closer to home in general…

on a good note – deck is feeling better and daycare sent a pic of him in the pool… my little baby is growing-up so fast!

so mr. piggy is up to 5 bottles a day because he’s looking to eat every 2-2.5 hours… i’m sure they are over feeding him, but i’m not going to complain since he’s so small and on the very low end of the scale (according to the pediatrician)… the only thing is – he’s back to waking during the night so i’ve been giving him a quick nurse and then he goes back down til i get him up around 6:00… not the most pleasant thing for me, but he just cries and cries and rocking doesn’t help… the LC said he’s just mixed up with schedules and should go back to normal soon… i really hope so because it’s making my days really long…

going back to work has been pretty good so far, though i hate commuting in the evening because i have to take metro and then walk home… no biggie when the weather is good, but it’s been freezing here so i have to walk really quick… there were delays both in the morning AND the evening so it sucked both ways yesterday… today was much better…

as some of you may have noticed, i haven’t talked much about weight (or anything related) because i haven’t been doing anything about it and decided not to until i was settled at work and with daycare… i’ve been good at ignoring how i feel and look, but it’s catching-up to me and it’s time to make a decision and do something about it… i will most likely do weight watchers again though i’ve heard more bad than good about the new plan… nutrisystem is out (because i’m nursing) and i really don’t want to have to buy food (jenny craig)… i will take some time this weekend and do more research… i also need to get my ass to the gym because working-out at home is just no feasible right now… i also have no idea how much i weigh which is pretty scary…

i think i’ve mentioned that eric and i have been considering moving to a bigger house and selling our current one… we looked at 3 on monday night and the one we liked the best, needs the most TLC (very outdated)… it would be a huge upgrade (5 bedrooms, 2 full baths, 2 half baths, den w/fireplace, and screened-in porch) and is in a wonderful neighborhood, but the owner refuses to accept a contingency clause that would allow us a specific time frame to sell our house… i can understand why – who wants to risk having to put a house back in the market if someone backs out… so if we put in an offer and no one else does, maybe she’d reconsider… if there are multiple offers, ours would probably go to the bottom and if we did get it in the end – then we’d have 2 houses until ours sold… it’s so damn confusing so stay tuned…

today is my last day in the office… besides random people stopping-by to say goodbye and wish me well, it’s been pretty normal… i was able to get my last big project off to the printer AND my boss was able to tell me that i got a 9.9% raise! holy cow! during my review last week, she mentioned that HR was going to do this salary-comparison thing and apparently, it worked to my advantage… i will say some extra thank-you’s in my prayers tonight because i feel really truly blessed to have a good job (in this economy), a great boss, and awesome coworkers…

in pregnancy news, i felt pretty bad yesterday – lower back pain, tired, and sluggish… i really thought “this could be it” but of course, it wasn’t… when i got home – all i wanted to do was take a bath so while eric made quiche for dinner, that’s exactly what i did… then we watched some tv, and then i layed down on the bed and watched ‘alien’ for the 100th time… it had to have been almost 1:00 by the time i fell asleep, but not waking-up during the night helped and i’ve felt okay today… so far, so good…

weekend plans: breakfast at a friend’s house tomorrow morning and then i told eric that we should take some things to goodwill… the weather in DC sounds amazing – sunny and in the lower 70s – so i hope to enjoy the sun for a bit, or at least be outside for a while… maybe i’ll go for a walk too since they said that can help “move things along”… i haven’t exercised in a while and really should because i certainly won’t be able too after this guy is born (for a few weeks anyway)…

I AM SO READY TO HAVE THIS BABY!!!

okay, maybe not READY ready, but i’m tired of feeling uncomfortable, and not being able to move around, and getting up to pee during the night, and feeling like a stuffed-pig… enough already… i have my weekly appointment tomorrow so let’s hope i’ve progressed since last week (1.5 cm) – stay tuned…

this weekend was really busy for both eric and i… we started off with breakfast at the diner on saturday morning and then i headed to the salon for my day of pampering… i got a bikini wax, haircut, and pedicure, and boy was it nice to just sit and relax for a change… i heard all sorts of baby/kid stories during those few hours so that was pretty fun… i also made my next two appointments including foil-highlights in december so i’m all funked-up before coming back to work…

on my way home, i stopped at the mall to have some security tags taken-off my nursing tops i bought last week then went to target to pick-up a few things… i needed to pee and upon doing so, (TMI) found some brown spotting/mucus and high-tailed it home… i knew since it wasn’t bright red that i was okay and i hadn’t been feeling crampy or back-achy so upon reading, it was probably the passing of my mucus plug… i WAS a bit freaked-out when i got home and told eric, “i’m not ready” and he goes, “yes, we are – stop worrying”… and that i did and proceeded to clean the bathroom, do laundry, organize more stuff in the nursery, and swap our summer/winter bedding… on sunday – i was still pretty motivated and went to the grocery store, made banana bread, did more laundry, and then my mom came down to help iron/hang curtains and do some final organizing in the baby’s room… we watched both the steelers and redskins game, and then eric made ham, potatoes, and green beans (from our garden) in the crockpot for dinner… my back was really hurting by the end of the day so i took a hot bath and then sat in the chair with the heating pad for a while… needless to say, i slept like a baby (pardon the pun)…

as for work – my last day is friday so only 3 more days to go… i finished a big report this morning and technically – there’s nothing else pending or on my plate right now… my boss told me on friday (during my review) that’s she’s not sure what they’ll do without me, and says to call if i get bored… ha, right… i have too many projects on my to-do list and worrying about work doesn’t even make it to the top-20…

i was all ready to start the non-stress test today at my OB appointment, but she said let’s wait another week… not sure why, but i’m okay with that since i forgot a book and will need to lay still for 20-minutes… the baby got an 8/8 today and as for me – weight is good (though i’m up 2.6 since last week!), measurement is perfect, and blood pressure is normal… besides my allergies – i don’t really have any complaints except for i now have ONE pair of capris that fit… since i am finally going to see my old roommate that had twins in may – i am hoping she will have some that i can have (why buy when you can borrow?)… i think i’ve gotten all the wear out of my ‘normal/bigger’ clothes and think it’s time to just suck it up and accept that a stretch-panel can be my friend… here are my updated stats – i’m still holding at a good weight, but am expecting to gain more each week until i deliver this little guy (7 weeks to go!)…

the nursery was finally cleared-out this past weekend, after the basement was reassembled and things were move downstairs… we also have an extra dresser in our bedroom which is making things tight for the time being, but it’s nothing i can’t handle… eric managed to get the ceiling painted on sunday and that’s as far as we’ve gotten… monday we visited a daycare center and shopped at home depot, and last night – we ran to another home depot and then IKEA to find an area rug… no such luck, but it was swedish meatball night and we had dinner instead… i WILL be starting the walls tonight, come hell or high water!

work has been less-busy then i would like, but that just means september will be hectic and maybe that’s a good thing so it will distract me from being pregnant (or make things worse, who knows)… my boss said that the designer who used to work here, is going to freelance for us while i’m on leave, so that makes me feel better… she just finished grad school and is looking for a job, so in the meantime – she can help us out… yay!

week is flying by

eric and i are still recuperating from the trip so we’ve been going to bed pretty early every night… i make a list of ‘things to do’, but by the time we get home, have dinner, and make lunche for the next day – i’m pooped… i had plenty’o energy on vacation so i can’t blame the baby, so hopefully the jet-lag will end soon… needless to say – there has been no progress made on the photos… sorry! =(

exercise news: i HAVE been to the gym this week and am proud to say that i went both yesterday (30-min treadmill) and today (30-min elliptical)… since i’m basically carting around 20 extra pounds (gain + baby), i can really feel it so i’m taking it easy until i get more energy… i will need to get back into weights soon as well since i’m feeling like a big blob and don’t like how my arms/legs have been looking… and since my eating has been less than desirable, i’ve reinstalled ‘lose it’ on my iphone and will start tracking again (i have it set to ‘maintain weight’)… god knows how much i gained on vacation and i’m scared to step on the scale… =(

house news: the house was painted while we were gone and it looks great – i will post before/after shots soon… the guy needs to come back and finish the front door and we’re also going to talk to him about redoing the upstairs bathroom… i have some money coming from my dad (not much) so i plan on using that for some house-related things and baby furniture… i’ve been looking at glass tile online and have come to realize that it would be way too expensive to do the whole tub/shower, but maybe as just one row would be nice… i’m digging this color combo right now but will have to see it in person (i ordered a sample today)… i’ve also been looking at faucets, sinks, lights, and cabinets, and getting a rough estimate on each… just call me mrs. bob villa… =)

work news: things have been quiet this week, both of my coworkers are on vacation so it’s just me and the boss… there was an announcement while i was gone, from the president, that we are going ‘business casual’ mon – fri for the rest of the summer… while we still can’t wear jeans, it’s better than nothing and i couldn’t be happier… =)
